Alive Beach House, El Transito – Nicaragua

Where we stay

Alive Beach House

We’ll be staying at Alive Beach House, a beautiful oceanfront boutique stay. It’s the kind of place that fits the retreat perfectly: close to the waves, relaxed, stylish, surrounded by nature, and made for slow mornings, surf days and sunset evenings together.

Oceanfront rooms with beautiful sea and garden views

Direct access to one of Nicaragua’s best surf spots

Fresh, healthy meals made with local ingredients

A relaxed, eco-conscious setting that feels intimate and special

I visited Alive Beach House and loved the feeling of it right away. The whole place is spread out in such a relaxed way, with lots of little cozy corners to sit, read, chat or just hang out between surf sessions. The rooms have beautiful ocean views, so the sea is always part of the experience.

Triple room

In this garden-level room, you’ll find three cozy twin beds, an en suite bathroom with shower, luxurious bed linens and bath towels, a ceiling fan and AC unit, a wardrobe, two nightside tables, transparent curtains for daytime privacy and grey blackout shades. This is a shared room with two other girls from the retreat.

Come alone. Feel like you belong.

Maybe you arrive a little nervous. Maybe you wonder who the other women will be, whether you’ll fit in, whether it will feel awkward at first.

And then somehow you’re sharing breakfast after surfing, laughing about your wipeouts, talking for hours over dinner and sitting around the fire with women who were strangers just a few days ago.

I want this to be a space where you can show up exactly as you are — no pressure, no pretending, no need to impress anyone. Just real connection, shared experiences and the kind of friendships that often happen when you do something brave together.

Female community · daily moments together · real connection

Finally learn to surf — or finally get better at it.

Maybe you’ve been saying “I’ve always wanted to learn how to surf” for years.

Or maybe you already surf, but you feel like you’ve been stuck at the same level for a while.

This retreat is not about jumping into the ocean once or twice just for the photo. Surfing is at the heart of the week.

We’ll work in small groups, spend real time in the water and use photos and video analysis to help you actually understand what you can improve.

You’ll fall. You’ll laugh. You might feel frustrated. And then you’ll catch a wave differently than you did before and realize that being a beginner at something can actually feel incredibly freeing.

Experience the Latin America I fell in love with.

I’ve spent years travelling through Latin America, and it has become such a big part of my life.

I also know that for many women, travelling here alone can feel intimidating.

That’s exactly why I want to share this place with you.

Wake up on Nicaragua’s Pacific coast, surf warm water, discover a tiny surf village, eat local food, watch sunsets that make you stop talking for a second and experience a side of Latin America you might never have chosen to explore on your own.

You get the adventure — but you don’t have to figure everything out by yourself.

Beachfront stay · El Tránsito, Nicaragua · all included

ABOUT YOUR HOST

Hey, I'm Kim

and Sunny Rebels grew out of the life I’ve been living for the past years.

Since 2022, I’ve spent a big part of my life travelling through Latin America, often on my own. I fell in love with the places, the people, the music, the wild coastlines, the surf culture and with the version of myself that came out when I kept choosing adventure, even when I was scared.

Again and again, people told me:

“I could never do that alone.”
“I would love to travel Latin America, but I’d be too scared.”
“I’ve always wanted to learn how to surf, but somehow I never did.”

And that stayed with me.

Because I know how much can change when you stop waiting to feel completely ready and just give yourself the chance to try.

Sunny Rebels is my way of bringing all the things I love into one experience: surfing, yoga, photography, travel, hosting, deeper connection and the places in Latin America that have become so meaningful to me.

I want to create a space where you can learn something new, improve your surfing, feel safe enough to be a beginner, connect with other women and experience a part of the world you might not have chosen to explore on your own.

A place where you can be nervous and excited at the same time. Where you can fall off the board, laugh about it, look at the video later and understand what you can do differently next time. Where yoga and movement actually support your surfing. Where there is time for deep conversations, but also time to simply lie by the pool, watch the ocean or do absolutely nothing. Where the week ends with tired bodies, salty hair, new friendships, a bonfire on the beach and hopefully that feeling of:

“I’m so glad I did this.”

I want to be the kind of host who makes you feel welcomed before you even arrive: That’s why we’ll connect before the retreat, answer your questions, help with your travel planning and make sure you don’t feel like you’re being dropped into Nicaragua on your own.

And if you decide to stay and travel afterwards, I’ll happily share the places, tips and experiences I’ve collected over the years. Because for me, Sunny Rebels is not about convincing women to become someone else. It’s about giving them a space to remember how much courage, curiosity and adventure is already in them.

And maybe giving them the push to finally do the thing they’ve been saying “one day” about for years.

ABOUT YOUR SURF INSTRUCTOR

Meet Rafa

I know Rafa through my boyfriend, and I’ve actually had a surf lesson with him myself, which made it really easy for me to know that I’d love to have him as part of this retreat.

He has such a calm, clear way of teaching and makes you feel supported without taking the fun out of surfing.

He has 6 years of professional surf coaching experience and splits his seasons between Tofino, British Columbia and El Tránsito, Nicaragua.

His coaching focuses on much more than just standing up on a board:

  • safety and confidence in the water

  • ocean knowledge and awareness

  • reading waves and conditions

  • technical progression for different surf levels

  • understanding why things work, not just copying movements

Rafa is also ISA certified, trained through the Lifesaving Society and holds Standard First Aid certification. What I really like about his approach is that the goal isn’t simply to get you onto a wave, it’s to help you understand the ocean better and become a more confident surfer overall. And it's always fun having him around.

He speaks English, French and Spanish and is super used to working with international surfers, which fits the Sunny Rebels group perfectly. There will also be a second surf assistant during the lessons, so we can keep the group small in the water and give everyone more individual attention. The second coach will be announced as soon as everything is confirmed and we know more about each level.

Payment & Booking

I know that booking a retreat like this is an investment, so I’ve intentionally split the payments to make it feel more manageable. To secure your spot, a $500 USD deposit is due when you book.

The remaining balance is then split into two payments:

1.) 50% of the remaining balance — 90 days before the retreat
2.) Final remaining balance — 45 days before the retreat

You’ll receive a personal payment overview after booking with your exact amounts and due dates, plus a reminder before each payment is due. Your spot is officially confirmed once your deposit has been received and you’ve received your booking confirmation from Sunny Rebels.

Payments are made via bank transfer to my Wise Business account. If you’re based in Europe, you’re also very welcome to pay in EUR instead of USD. I’ll send you the exact EUR amount together with your payment details.

Before making any payment, you’ll receive the full Booking & Cancellation Policy to read and agree to.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know.

Absolutely. I actually expect that many women will. Sunny Rebels is designed for women who want to join the adventure even if none of their friends can come with them. Before the retreat, we’ll have a group video call so everyone can meet, ask questions and start getting to know each other before arriving in Nicaragua. You can come alone, you won’t be doing the week alone. :)

Yes. You do not need any previous surf experience. The retreat is designed for complete beginners as well as beginner and progressing surfers. The surf program will focus on real progression, with small groups, technical feedback and video analysis throughout the week.

You’re very welcome too. Sunny Rebels is best suited to beginner-to-intermediate surfers who want to improve their technique, positioning, wave selection and confidence in the water. It is not designed as an advanced surf coaching retreat.

No. I want the retreat to feel adventurous, not exhausting. Surfing will be a big part of the week, but if you need a slower morning, want to skip an activity or simply spend some time by the pool or beach, that’s completely okay. This is your week too.

There will be a limited number of room categories available:

1 x Shared Triple Room
For three women sharing.

2 x Shared Double / Twin Room
For two women sharing.

Private Room
Very limited availability.

Room categories are confirmed once your deposit has been received and you receive your official booking confirmation. There might still be the option, if more people are interested in a private room, to change room options.

Yes, if you’re booking with a friend, just let me know and I’ll do my best to place you together. If you’re coming solo, you can simply book a shared room and I’ll arrange the rooming from there.

Fill out the booking form and select your preferred room category. You’ll then receive the payment details for your $500 deposit. Your spot is officially confirmed once the deposit has been received and you receive your booking confirmation from Sunny Rebels.

To secure your spot at Sunny Rebels, a $500 USD deposit is due when you book. The remaining balance is split into two payments: 50% of the remaining balance — 90 days before the retreat. Final remaining balance — 45 days before the retreat. You’ll receive a reminder before each payment is due, so you don’t need to keep track of the dates yourself. If you book less than 90 days before the retreat, the payment schedule will be adjusted accordingly and communicated clearly before you confirm your booking. Your place is officially secured once the deposit has been received and you’ve received your booking confirmation from Sunny Rebels.

Life happens, and I completely understand that sometimes plans have to change. Because Sunny Rebels is a small retreat with very limited spaces, accommodation, instructors and activities are booked in advance. For that reason, cancellation refunds become more limited the closer we get to the retreat. If you need to cancel:

More than 90 days before the retreat
You’ll receive 50% of your $500 deposit back. Any additional payments already made will be refunded.

90–61 days before the retreat
The $500 deposit is non-refundable. Any additional payments will be refunded.

60–31 days before the retreat
You’ll receive 25% of the total amount you have paid back.

30 days or less before the retreat
Payments are non-refundable.

If you can no longer attend, you may be able to transfer your spot to another woman, subject to approval and completion of the required booking information. You’ll receive the full Booking Terms & Conditions to read and agree to before making any payment. I strongly recommend taking out travel insurance that includes trip cancellation coverage, as well as medical coverage for surfing and other activities during your trip.

Yes — travel insurance is required for this retreat. Since we'll be surfing and in the water, you'll need cover for medical treatment abroad and emergency medical transport, including watersports. I'll send you a few options to choose from once you've booked, and I'll need proof of your insurance no later than 30 days before we start.

Because Sunny Rebels is intentionally small, every room category has very limited availability. If your preferred room is no longer available, I’ll contact you personally before confirming the booking and let you know which alternatives are available.

On the arrival day, there will be one organised group shuttle from Managua Airport to El Tránsito, and the same on departure day back to Managua Airport. I’ll choose the shuttle time based on the most suitable flight options for the group.

If you arrive outside the group shuttle time, travel via Costa Rica, extend your trip before or after the retreat, or arrive from somewhere else in Nicaragua, I’m happy to help you figure out the best way to get to El Tránsito. Any additional or alternative transport outside the organised group shuttle is not included in the retreat price.

Before the retreat, we’ll also have a group call and connect everyone, so you’ll know exactly what to expect and can coordinate with the other women if needed.

It’s completely normal to feel excited and a little nervous about travelling somewhere new. One of the reasons I created Sunny Rebels is because I know many women would love to experience places like Nicaragua but might not necessarily choose to travel there alone. You’ll receive detailed arrival information before the retreat, and I’ll be available to help with travel planning and questions beforehand.

Surfing follows the ocean, not a fixed timetable. The exact surf schedule may change depending on tides, swell, wind and the group’s surf levels. Our surf instructor will adjust the surf times throughout the week so we can make the most of the conditions and keep the sessions appropriate for the group.

The plan is to provide boards for the whole week. Before the retreat, I’ll collect information about everyone’s surf experience and board preferences so we can arrange suitable boards for the group. If you already surf and have a specific board preference, just let me know during the onboarding process.

Meals at Alive are fresh, homemade and inspired by local ingredients and Nicaraguan flavours. The retreat will also include a few meals outside the hotel so you can experience more of El Tránsito. There will be a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian (fish)options, and I’ll coordinate the meal plan with Alive before the retreat.

Please let me know in the booking form if you have any food allergies, intolerances or dietary preferences such as vegetarian or vegan. I’ll do my best to accommodate dietary needs and will confirm anything specific with the kitchen in advance.

Fill out the booking form and select your preferred room category. You’ll then receive the payment details for your $350 deposit. Your spot is officially confirmed once the deposit has been received and you receive your booking confirmation from Sunny Rebels.

FLIGHT HELP GUIDE

Coming from Europe or North America? Don’t let the journey stop you.

The closest international airport is Managua (MGA), with connections through major hubs in Europe, the US and Central America.

If you’re travelling from Europe, I recommend arriving 1–2 days before the retreat so you have time to settle in and recover from the journey.

And if you have a little more time, make the most of your flight and stay in Nicaragua for a few extra days after Sunny Rebels. León, Granada, Ometepe and more of Nicaragua’s Pacific coast are all waiting.

Once you book, I’ll help you with arrival planning, getting to El Tránsito and can share my personal travel recommendations if you want to explore more of Nicaragua afterwards.

Good flight routes

EUROPE
Madrid — MAD
Amsterdam — AMS

USA
Miami — MIA
Houston — IAH

CANADA
Toronto — YYZ
Montreal — YUL

And if you’re unsure which route makes sense, just message me — I’m happy to help you look at options.

My tip:
Don’t only search your home airport → Managua.

Sometimes it helps to search the journey in separate parts, for example:

Home airport → Madrid

Madrid → Managua

or

Home airport → Amsterdam

Amsterdam → Managua

Sometimes that gives you better options or prices.

Important: If you book separate tickets, leave plenty of time between flights in case of delays.
